THE EVENING OF THE NINTH

‘Green’ – Throwing Muses

The next college project is a production of BLOOD WEDDING by Federico Garcia Lorca.

Donna and I agreed to work together on some research into Spanish Political History, essential information if we are to understand the background behind the drama.  We selected a number of books dealing with 1930s Spain and Lorca himself, but really it was a daunting task.  Researching it and putting it all together in a digestible form for our fellow students is hard work, but it needs to be done and I appreciate that.

DOCTOR WHO NOW…

TV

SILVER NEMESIS

I found this a little dull, to tell the truth.  The TURKEY of Season 25.  The Cybermen were silly + the plot was crass in the light of similar doings in the too recent Remembrance Of The Daleks.  Even so, it looked good + despite its pointlessness feels great.  By no means the worst ever.  The Peinforte concept + the secret ‘Doctor who?’ history stuff was ‘EEX-CE-LENT!’

THE GREATEST SHOW IN THE GALAXY

Tremendous.  Exquisite.  Now ranking second only to The Happiness Patrol in my list of favourite Doctor Who stories.  The characters were fantastic: Capt. Cook – brilliant; Chief Clown – compliments to Ian Reddington; Jessica Martin – fabulous; Peggy Mount – delightful; and I loved Chris Jury’s Deadbeat.  The concepts were brilliant: Bellboy’s buried robot was a visual feast; the undertaker clowns were wonderful on the eye; and the kites were charming.  I’m very pleased with it.  Extremely chuffed.

THE WEB OF FEAR (PART ONE)

Immensely dull.  I’d have to see the rest, mate.  Not a classic in my book; well, not based on this poor excuse for an episode.  Even so, it’s far from being shit.

CASTROVALVA

Peter Davison’s first – and damned good.  I found it a wonderful story, despite the production values and numerous primitive effects.  An excellent adventure.
