Set Designs and Sound Designs

‘Do You Dream In Colour?’ – Bill Nelson

Set designs were drawn up in detail, as per my original design.  We have now officially agreed that there will only be a set for the indoor show (on 1st + 2nd NOV).  The outdoor performance on 31st OCT will aim to utilise the Chapel, which can also be used as a publicity angle.  Having no set will save allsorts of logistical problems, but also means we won’t detract from the beauty and atmosphere of the Chapel and the surrounding trees.

Vladimir Porton – a very eccentric musician – has been brought in to help encourage the development of the play’s soundtrack.  Thus, my 3-minute demo was finally aired.  In order to gain maximum effect, I asked the students to lie on their backs in relaxed positions, asked them to close their eyes, and outlined the scene which the ‘music’ was intended to accompany.  I wanted their imaginations to flow and entwine with the sounds they were hearing.  It was favourably welcomed by most of those that heard it, and I am now – along with Pete Brownfield and Jonny Badcock – officially a member of the team that will be producing a ‘music concrete’ soundtrack with Vlad.  Very Tristram Cary!
